Good day to you!! I'm Dr. Kareem Samhouri.
And I'm here to introduce myself, tell you a bit more about what we do, and help you figure out if we might be a good fit or if you should probably look somewhere else; after all, the point of you visiting us today is to improve/optimize your health.
Let's take a deeper look, and please know that my intention in writing this letter to you today is to support you and be a friend, regardless of whether or not we end up working together...
So we get to know each other a bit better, here's some more about me:
I'm 41 years old and have been a practicing Doctor of Physical Therapy for a bit over 15 years now... I worked as a Personal Trainer before this, as well, with my Kinesiology degree, for about 4 years...
I have two kids and two doggies, and I'm a single papa.
But I'm guessing that you'd like to know more about how I can help you, rather than who I am... So can I help you?
Well, that depends... for many people, the answer may be NO.
For some reason, people want to feel motivated in order to exercise and eat right, when in reality, they have to motivate in order to exercise and eat right, which leads to much more motivation to follow...
I used to think the same way... I wanted to know the shortcut to everything, albeit weight loss or pain relief, and I wasn't interested in putting in the time and effort...
I understand. That's what I wanted when I was 32 pounds overweight and had severe joint pain (more on that in a bit).
I figured that if I could just get away with eating junky food and exercise a bit every day, maybe I wouldn't have to give up so many weekend favorites like pizza, candy, cheesesteaks, or ice cream... and I'd feel great anyway.
Well, that didn't work. And the pain got worse.
Eventually, my joints started to break down and my career as an athlete was at risk.
Nowadays, I do feel it's easy to stay in shape, I rarely feel the 'need' to exercise (and instead am drawn to quick workouts or an active lifestyle) and I actually crave food that both tastes good and is good for me... but it took lots of trial and error, and much more effort initially than I thought I was going to have to put in.
...And it still takes work. It still takes a commitment to living healthy. And I still feel tempted from time to time...
So if you're not prepared to commit to what it actually takes to lose weight, get out of pain, or optimize your health, then I'm not your guy.
We're not selling 'lose weight quick' schemes. And we're not promising overnight pain relief without some kind of follow up effort to keep it away...
So here's why I'm telling you this... if you search for weight loss products, pain relief programs, etc., what you'll find typically is something about a supplement, weight loss pill, or "one quick stretch" to get out of pain...
And it doesn't work like this.
In fact, many people love chiropractors, because it's passive. You go there, get cracked and then come back for more when you're ready.
The thing is... I started my first personal training business on referrals from chiropractors who knew that they were leaving their patients hanging not giving a follow up exercise program, which actually put their patients at risk of something called 'hyper mobility' or too much movement in certain spinal segments; in short, this meant that the pain would eventually come back, or a new -- and worse -- pain would show up.
Anyone in health knows that when you make a shift in your health, the best way to hold onto it is to train your body to recognize this change. This involves the proper dosing of exercise and food, which can both be recognized as medicine.
So if you just want to pop a pill or drink a shake... that eventually means you're going to be back in pain or heavier than when you started.. we'd say save your money and go on vacation instead. It's way more fun.
Please understand that what I'm telling you is based upon an oath that I've taken: "do no harm".
And what I've witnessed over the years is that if I pretend that something is going to help you that does not, I have actually contributed to decreasing the amount you believe in yourself and your ability to be healthy. Health has been such a mystery for so many people... for so long... so I simply don't want to add to the confusion.
Does this make sense? I'd rather not offend you, and I'd rather say 'yes, I want to help you', but being willing to do the work is going to be up to you...

In 2007, I graduated with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. And upon graduation, many investors were interested in me creating a new health model for gyms that I used to save up for my wedding, at the time...
You see, I was training clients 'in pain' who wanted to lose weight in one of the iconic downtown buildings in Miami, Florida.
Well, my clients were seeing such great 'fat loss', 'weight loss', 'healthy aging', and 'muscle building' results that they were thrilled.. except, the main differentiator was that almost all of them came to me in pain and we used a method I learned through PT school to address their exercise and proper eating.
The main difference between the clients I saw and other personal trainers' clients was that my clients were keeping their results 6, 12, and 18 months down the line... why?
Because they got out of pain, and exercise was the way that they did it...
So, yes, they lost weight, got stronger, or got more lean... but the reason they stuck with it is because they didn't want to experience chronic, life-limiting pain again.
At the time, I charged $20/hour, then $50/hour, then $75/hour, then $110/hour... and this was because my waitlist kept growing.
Eventually, this got up to offers of $25,000 per day. I turned those down and started to volunteer all of my in-person time and offer discounted health programs online... making a fortune ripping people off who desperately wanted to get healthy was not the reason I got into health...
And even though I was still in massive debt at the time, it didn't feel right.
